Patch Tuesday and Your Security

As if we didn’t have enough to worry about, the incidence of DDOS attacks continues to rise fairly dramatically. According to the digital attack map, the simple fact is that we’ve all got to be a little more aware of what’s happening out there and take steps to be sure that we’re updating CMS, plugins and other things–up to and including patching our OS regularly.

Those are things you already know but how diligently are you doing that? Making sure that you update regularly isn’t just a good idea, it’s an imperative. That’s particularly true today.. On today’s agenda should be updating your computer.

Patch Tuesday has been a joke in the computer community nearly since the arrival of Microsoft, but the reality is that since most of us use at least a few MS products, it’s no laughing matter. Patches being released today are a perfect example of why regular updates are necessary.

Microsoft is reputedly releasing a wide range of different patches, among them one that will be the plug of choice for a zero day vulnerability that has been plaguing us since September. It’s being used in a cyber espionage campaign that has targeted NATO and the EU as well as several other governments and government organizations. Every version of Windows except Windows XP ( we knew we liked that for a reason) appears to be vulnerable, even the much vaunted Windows 8.1.

If you’ve not yet received your monthly “fix” get thee hence and accomplish it.
